It has become a little bit outdated content, but still, I had to write something about it.
When there was the presidential election, there were also many other propositions going on for people to vote. (I actually don't know how this thing work.)
Either way, one of the most concerned propositions were #8 (in California): Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry.
I was reading several of my friends' blogs, and this one paragraph caught my eyes:How can in the same stroke people decide that the color of someone's skin is not a concern, but who they choose to love IS?! Do they not see discrimination is discrimination, no matter what the particular target is?? Saying gays can't marry is the SAME THING as saying whites and blacks can't marry! No progress has been made in civil rights! What's really being said is that gays are less than human, and that's sick.
It made me think... then how about marriage between blood-related man and woman? I know this is kind of extreme, but say, cousins are not allowed to marry in the States. I just asked my husband "what do you think of someone marrying his/her cousin?" He said, it's not good, it's considered incest, etc.
So according to my friend, discrimination is discrimination, no matter what the particular target is.
I wonder, would she feel anything about incest then? Even though marriage between cousins are not allowed, it is certainly accepted in some countries. As long as they love each other, and they agree not to have kids (because genetically it'll produce inferior children and that's just wrong for the children), ... what is wrong with it? Would she have psychological hatred, just like people who voted
"Yes" on Prop 8 had towards gays?
Some car I saw on the way to my work right after the election.

Pomegranate
My nearby supermarket (Safeway) had buy one get one free sale for pomegranate, so I got two of them.
There are so many pomegranate products out there now, but this was my first time ever that I tried the actual fruits. Do they sell this in Japan? I don't think I've ever seen it in the supermarkets.
I wasn't sure how to eat this fruits, so I just cut it half.
* I googled on it afterward, and it seems the best way to get the edible part out is to cut the top of the pomegranate, then cut thin layer on the skin. You can then break them into smaller pieces by hands, and take the small fruits out.
The edible part resembled much like corns. Each of those little piece contained tiny seed, so it was pretty troublesome to eat them. My husband and housemates hated this troublesome fruits, and ended up I was the only one eating it.
I have one more pomegranate in my fridge, and I'm thinking of bringing it to work to share with my coworkers tomorrow.

Lamp...?
I saw this at IKEA today.
... Human-shaped lamps?!
I wonder if anyone would actually buy this to use it at his/her home.

Potluck
Whenever there's a potluck, at least one person brings ice cream, just because it's one of the easiest food to buy and bring, and everyone loves it. But then, what if multiple people bring ice cream?
That's what happened at our place:
There was one more box of it, but fortunately it was consumed during the potluck... Still. Six more boxes? Someone help me.

Series "Frozen"
Number one:
I left this broccoli at the bottom of my fridge. Can you see the icy part? I don't know why it can be frozen down there...
Number two:
We had pot luck party at my place last Saturday. Someone brought beer, and since they were not cold at all, he put them in the freezer. He told me "don't forget to take them out later. They'll explode otherwise." It's been five days since. I'm glad they didn't explode.
I wonder how beer'd taste like after being frozen once, and then be defrosted. Will it still have air in it?

What Do You Wear to Sleep?
I was running out of stuff to write already... I spend pretty much boring life :/
ANYWAYZ. I don't know "writing in English every day" helps me at all at this point, but better than nothing; I stole a theme from FC2 blog trackback.
"What do you wear to sleep?"
Let's see.. what I wear for my PJ... I wear comfy Tshirt and fleece on top, and PJ pants on bottom. I'm wearing pink ones today. Pink is somewhat encouraging color for me (maybe because I'm not so much of a girly girl, so wearing pink will make me feel like a normal girl and... you know girls are generally invincible) and also makes me feel happy.
And then, some other times I wear blue-ish color... It will calm me down and lead me to soothing sleep...
... ...
I say all that, but in reality, I just alternate two pairs of PJs, so I can wash one pair while wearing the other. D:;

Me, My Husband, and English
My husband was born and raised in the States. Even though his mother tongue is not English, we can say he is a native English speaker.
Naturally, he often complains about my English, especially my pronunciation. He tells me that I've been in the States for more than ten years but how come I'm still so bad at speaking it?
Then I reply that he was never cooperative when I tried to improve my English. Whenever I ask him what the certain word means, he just go "I don't know" because he was just too lazy to explain it to me. He complains about my pronunciation, but he doesn't want to correct it, either. He just tells me to watch more TV.
...Watching TV, eh?
As I wrote in this entry, I do think my grammar is pretty good by now. It was day to day practice for more than five years. Having my own proofreaders helped me a lot, but most of all, I was translating something I love.
I know I need to improve my speaking ability including my English pronunciation, and I understand watching TV will help me some of it. But I'm not totally convinced by this method. Or maybe, maybe I should start repeating after the TV. (I know my husband will complain again though, saying "you're too noisy!")
I'm overly shy (to the point I get very anti-social), so that's one of the reasons my speaking ability didn't improve as much as my reading/written ability, but yeah... I guess I'll have to work on that.

Holiday
There were many children today at work when I went down to cafe. What's going on?
It turned out it was Veteran's day today.
In the States, there are many holidays, but not everyone has the same day off. Take this as an example; most schools have a day off, but others have to work. Sometime the holidays differ from state to state, too. I think many easten states have St. Patrick's Day off, but not western states.
It makes me miss Japanese holidays; everyone has same holidays. You won't be sitting at work and envying others!

If we ignore the year...
...then it looks like I didn't take that big of break, doesn't it?
I'm hoping to restart my English blog, as well as writing some other random stuff in Japanese sometime...
Wish me luck?
